What I learned this week...

I learned this week that I really don't have much to complain about after watching

"Little Couple". on TLC. It's a reality show about Jen and Bill a Newlywed couple who happen to be "Little people." Jen is a Doctor who takes care of premature babies and babies born with difficulties. Jen is an example of someone who has overcome adversity, but what inspires me the most is her spirit. She stays so positive! I never thought about how it would be living in this world as Little person. They have so many challenges. Her husband Bill has a big personality and at times I think he's a little sarcastic but he obviously loves and adores Jen.

In one episode they are discussing having children. Because of Jen's size it would be a huge risk for her. As they discuss the possibilities they decide it's just too risky. They will have to take another route. I'm not sure why I'm so intrigued by this show but I noticed there are several other shows about "Little People"! I honestly am not sure if I am intrigued by Little people or just this particular couple.

It really made me stop and think that there are many other people out there that have life challenges I never even thought about.

I am supposed to list 7 things that make me Awe-Summm!! I can't think of a darn one but maybe once I finish my coffee..hmmmm Also I get to choose 7 bloggers that I think are Awe-Summ!! Tag the recipients to let them know they won and link back to the Queen that tagged me, which I did above.

1. I love my family.

2. I endure cold, wind and rain to watch my boys play sports.

3. I ride my motorcycle with white knuckles and praying all the while to be able to spend time doing things my boys (all 3) enjoy.

4. According to Mark. I make really good Spaghetti sauce.. :-)

5. I will sign the boys up for Tackle Football.. even though it's killing me inside.. haha

6. I go on lots of field trips..........I think I've been on hundreds :-)

7. I've scrapbooked just about every little memory that has occured in the past 10 yrs.

Ok.... I'm sure there are many more (not) but there's my 7.

She is an awesome Mom and gives her all to her family.

2. Lindsay over at Bytes of Memory . Another awesome mom. I love reading about the adventures of Sammy her 2 yr old boy.

4. Shelley at Simply Persnickety . She always gives great tips and advice on organizing, cleaning..etc. She is the Queen of organization.

5. Heather over at The Extraordinary ordinary. The name says it all. She makes everyday things so interesting and fun to read.

6. Sheri over at Wild Women of the Universe. She has great spirtual insights. I look forward to Intuitive Tuesdays! She is the queen of tarot cards.

7. Last but not least. My sister in law Tamara at her family blog called Life with Lila. Lila is her first baby and she is so adorable. Tamara is a wonderful mom and I love staying up with the day to day happenings of Lila. (Her's is a private blog, so you may not be able to view it).

I'm kind of winging it this week because I don't have anything jumping out at me but let's see what I can come up with.

It's probably better if I don't drink my favorite Starbucks drink during the kids Football games because the caffeine might make me get a little mouthy, and Mark may have to shush me :0. Have you noticed watching my kids play football seems to bring out the worst in me? In my defense, the league we are playing in did not do a very good job with the teams this year. I fondly call Connor's team "The Replacements". Have you ever seen that movie. It's where the real players go on strike and they find "replacements". It's kind of a hodge podge of players but they eventually learn to work together. Anyway Con's team only has 2 other teams to play against and one you saw in the video yesterday. are middle schoolers and they have played both flag and tackle together, so it's really lopsided. Alex is the youngest and smallest on his team.. he's used to being the smallest but surely there was a team of 8 yrs olds they could have put him on. Anyway he's doing fine but would probably have more fun if the other boys were closer to his age. I'm almost done, just hang in there with me.

What's the deal with these coaches that have sons on the team (99% of them do) which makes perfect sense but when you are playing in a rec league, why do they always (in my experience) show favoritism in playing their kids more and any position they want even though he may not be the best?

I know I sound like one of those whiny Moms and usually I really do just "pull up my big girl panties" (as Mom would say) and hang in there. I do know that team sports can be good for kids and they learn a lot about working with others but the mentality of some parents and coaches is just something I have a hard time swallowing.

Anyway, what I learned this week is that if sports are what the boys are passionate about right now, I will do my best to hang in there with them. I will give them the information I have as far as the ups and downs and realities as I see it, but let them make the choice for now.

In the meantime I will secretly hope they follow their other passions such as.. Alex and his music, and Connor with his geology and paleontology. It would be much easier on this mommy's heart :)

What I learned this week...

1. I learned that I am still not fully recovered from surgery. I went for a walk yesterday and was pretty sore and tired even though it was a short one.

2. I learned that Terra gives awesome parties, where everyone has fun, kids and adults alike.

3. My friend Leslie started a new blog.

4. It's always a good idea to call ahead when you go to the Museum to visit a new exhibit even if it is a Monday, the exhibit times may all be filled and your son will be mad at you all day.

5. 11 yr old boys can be very moody and sometimes wake up in a bad mood and stay that way ALL day. (see #4) and you may wonder if boys really are easier to deal with going through puberty than girls.

6. Skylar may never be potty trained :)

7. When both you and your mate are not getting sleep it doesn't make for a very good combination :)

8. Alex can entertain himself for hours outside with just a little snow (ok a LOT of snow) and a few neighborhood friends. (Ok I already knew that but it always amazes me)

9. When I said "we will never do Spring sports" again, I should have stuck to it. (We have gotten in 1 or 2 games in the past few weeks due to weather.)

10. I can ramble on and on about our new puppy to my Dad and he will just patiently listen. I love my Daddy. (yes I still call him Daddy) He was probably watching a baseball game on the other end but that's ok.

11. I really miss my Mom's cooking, it's just not the same when I try to duplicate her recipes.

12. We have again accumlated way to much junk. Everywhere I look, I think "I need to clean out that drawer, or shelf, or room or closet" Where does it all come from?? "Shelley , HELP!".

Just settling in for bed. A is at the foot of the bed on the floor in his sleeping bag (don't judge me :)

A: Mom, can you come down here?
me: Oh honey I just got settled in (with my book). I thought he wanted me to lay with him.
A: I just want to tell you something
me: I go down next to him.
A: I just wanted to tell you that I was messing around in class. We had to draw a body and I drew a penis on mine. I erased it but my teacher saw it and I think she might talk to you about it at my conference next week. I'm sorry Mom.
me: (feeling a little horrified but wanting to giggle at the same time, the things teachers must see). I say, well thank you for telling me.
A: I'm sorry Mom.
me: You do realize that it was inappropriate, especially at school.
A: I know.. but so and so drew an afro on his and he didn't get in trouble. EVERYONE was being silly..
me: Everyone??
A: yes.
me: again, you understand why this is inappropriate and you should never do anything like that again?
A: yes.
Me thinking: I bet his teacher gave him the option of telling me before she did.. At least he did tell me. I can't wait to see her at his conference :)


C: Mom, I'm sorry but I really don't like your new haircut.

me: that's ok honey. I got it cut short to get rid of the layers and color. It will grow out.

C: It looks like a bad wig... sorry Mom.

me: That's okay (he is so honest.. he just can't help it. At least he follows it with an apology, the little bugger).

So what I learned this week is that my children are NOT perfect and they may even be a little......obscene at times. "gasp" Also that they may be brutally honest but I'm pretty sure they still love me.

The other night my sweet little 5 yr old neighbor Chloe (in the picture with Alex) came to the door. She was bringing some magazines over to me from her mom (miss Helen). I chatted with her at the door telling her I loved her robe and fuzzy bunny slippers and the cute hat she was wearing. She really did look so cute showing up at our door on a cold snowy night in her robe. So after she left, her Mom called and said I have to tell you this... So I guess when Helen asked Chloe to please take the magazines over to Miss Bonnie but hurry back because it's cold outside and you are in your robe. Chloe replied "But Miss Bonnie likes to talk". So off she came to my house. When she returned back home Miss Helen said "What took you so long?" Chloe said "I TOLD you Miss Bonnie likes to talk!".

So what I learned is that maybe I need a little more female companionship if I'm holding up my poor little 5 yr old Chloe just to chat! The thing is girls really are more talkative and just an FYI... Chloe and I have had some great conversations!
